Women’s Basketball Stays Home for the Week to Face McNeese and Nicholls

SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will stay home this week to face McNeese on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. and Nicholls on Saturday at 2 p.m. 
 

THE LAST TIME THEY MET 

  • The Cardinals are 6-6 against the Cowgirls. The last time these two played, UIW completed a historic win to reach the championship game of the Southland Conference tournament and ultimately punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. 

  • In the 10 all-time meetings, the Cardinals have a 7-6 advantage over the Colonels.  

  • Nicholls only lost to UIW by one in the March of 2022 matchup.  

UIW  

  • The Cardinals are led by Nina De Leon Negron with 11.4 points per game.  

  • Defense is still the name of the game for UIW as the team currently ranks third in points allowed per game with 57.6. 

  • Myra Bell and Aliyah Collins have proven to be key factors to UIW's game. Each are currently averaging around seven points and they have combined for 34 steals on the year.  

  • Destiny Terrell is cleaning up the boards for the Cardinals with 86 this season.  

COWGIRLS 

  • The Cowgirls are 7-11 on the season and 4-3 in conference. In the most recent Southland rankings, they are in fourth place following a three-game win streak. 

  • Paris Mullins leads McNeese averaging 10.1 points a game, in addition, she's shooting 50 percent from field goal range. 

  • The Cowgirls have the highest points average in the SLC, scoring over 66 points a game. 

  • Divine Tanks has shot 54 percent in her last 18 games for McNeese, and outside the arc, she's shooting 37 percent. 

COLONELS 

  • Forward, Deonna Brister averaged 22 points and 9.5 rebounds in their last two Southland conference games to earn Southland Player of the Week. 

  • Lexi Alexander is the current leading scorer for the Colonels offense. She averages 13.8 points a game while also grabbing a team high 8.4 rebounds per contest. 

  • The Colonels are an offensive heavy team, as they're averaging over 57 points per game.
