Men’s Basketball Looks to Continue Win-Streak

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team returns to the McDermott Center for two games this week. First against McNeese on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for the Coaches Against Cancer game, and then Saturday at 4 p.m. against the Nicholls Colonels where UIW Athletics will highlight its international student-athletes.

UIW has a losing record all-time against both McNeese (4-7) and Nicholls (5-8) but is looking to continue its hot streak after two road wins.

The Cardinals' two road wins last week moved them into eighth place in the conference with an 8-12 overall record, and 2-5 in the SLC. This is the third time UIW men's basketball has won two consecutive road Southland Conference games in school history (2020-21, 2015-16). UIW also set the Division I single-game steals record, securing 18 at Lamar.

McNeese is on a five-game losing streak after falling to Nicholls twice last week.  Those two losses dropped McNeese to tenth in the Southland with a 5-15 overall record. Christian Shumate is leading the Cowboys, averaging nearly a double-double with 11.8 points per game and 9.4 rebounds.

The Colonels have been moving up in the standings and are currently second in the Southland Conference. Caleb Huffman and Latrell Jones are both averaging just above 15 points per game for Nicholls, and each had a 20-point game last week against McNeese.
