Women’s Basketball Travels to HCU and Lamar

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is coming off a two-game win streak last week before heading to Houston Christian University on Thursday and Lamar University on Saturday.
 
 
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
  • The Cardinals are 3-14 all-time against the Huskies, but UIW won the last matchup during the Southland Conference Tournament, 54-33.
  • UIW last saw Lamar in March of 2021 when the team fell, 59-48.
 
UIW
  • Following last week's wins over New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana, the Cardinals are tied for fifth place in the current Southland Conference standings with HCU, Lamar, and McNeese. UIW is now 7-8 overall and 2-3 in SLC play.
  • UIW's defense continues to hold opponents to only 55.8 points per game.
  • In conference play, several student-athletes have been major point contributors. Nina De Leon Negron leads the team with 11.7 points per contest. After finishing with a career-high 19 points on Saturday, Myra Bell is the second-leading scorer with eight points per game.
  • Destiny Terrell is the team's top rebounder, pulling down five per game while putting up 7.9 points per contest.
 
HUSKIES
  • HCU is also 2-3 in SLC play and is 7-9 this season. The Huskies are on a two-game losing streak after falling to McNeese and Texas A&M – Commerce last week.
  • Two student-athletes lead the way in points per game as N'Denasija Collins is finishing with 13.1 and Julija Vujakovic is adding 10.9.
  • Collins, a 6-foot-0 forward is also the leading rebounder, pulling down 7.3 per contest.
 
CARDINALS
  • Very similar to HCU, Lamar is 2-3 in the Southland Conference and on a two-game losing streak after facing Nicholls and Texas A&M – Commerce last week.
  • Sabria Dean (15.4), Akasha Davis (11.4), and Portia Adams (11.1) are all scoring in double digits for the Lamar Cardinals.
  • Rebounding is balanced for Lamar as well with three student-athletes pulling down around five rebounders per contest. Davis leads the way with 6.1.
