SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team has two home games this week at the McDermott Center. First, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against the New Orleans Privateers and then on Saturday at 4 p.m. against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions.
The Cardinals lost against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Saturday 71-80, bringing their record to 6-10 overall and 3-0 in conference play as they sit ninth in the SLC. Luca Barei, a 6-6 guard from Australia, played his first game in a UIW uniform last week. Coming off the bench, he led the team in scoring with 15 points, along with five rebounds and two blocked shots.
Their first opponent, the Privateers, are currently fourth in the conference with a 5-9 record overall, 2-1 in SLC play. They have been tested this season with tough games against schools such as Butler and Purdue. Jordan Johnson leads New Orleans in points and assists, averaging 16.4 ppg and 3.9 assists.
Southeastern Louisiana has started 8-8 and 2-1 in the SLC after a thrilling win in overtime against Lamar last week. The Lions will be on the road all week, first taking on TAMU – CC before heading to San Antonio on Saturday.
