SAN ANTONIO - The first home game of the season didn't quite go to plan as a late goal from California State University at Fullerton (CSUF) goal led to a 2-1 loss for the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team.
On a hot afternoon in San Antonio, the tempo of the game was very high from the beginning as both teams looked to break the deadlock early.
An early chance from both teams was narrowly missed after some good possession-based football.
Unfortunately, it was CSUF who would take the early lead in the game. Titan's Cruz received the ball on the right side and dribbled across the box taking on three UIW defenders and then rocketed his shot into the opposite top corner.
Going into the second half, UIW would create more chances but it was in the 72
nd minute when
Sello Diphoko would grab the equalizer after some combination play down the left found Diphoko free on the edge of the box to finish in the bottom corner.
Heartbreak came in the last five minutes of the game for the Cardinals as it was the Titans who managed to grab the winner. Banihani appeared back post to tap in a good low cross from his Titan teammate.
The Cardinals won't be back at home until Saturday, October 22 when they host Utah Tech for Alumni night with a 7 p.m. kick off. Men's soccer returns to action this Sunday vs Houston Christian University in Houston, TX for a 7 p.m. kick off.
