SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team dropped its doubleheader against Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC), falling 4-2 in game one and 6-1 in game two on Saturday evening at H-E-B Field.
UIW 2, TAMUCC 4
Aaliyah Garcia started game one in the circle for UIW, striking out four Islander batters.
Ashley Trapp entered the game in the fifth inning and had six strikeouts.
Bella Sanchez and
Savannah Behabetz led the Cardinals with two hits while
Avalon Sanchez had a team-high two RBIs.
The Islanders jumped ahead, 3-0, in the first three innings, but
Ryleigh Mata used a leadoff double to left-center field to spark the offense.
Avalon Sanchez followed with an RBI double that brought the Cardinals within one run (3-2).
Trapp recorded three strikeouts across the fifth and sixth innings, but the Islanders extended their edge to 4-2 in the top of the sixth inning.
Trapp came out strong in the top of the seventh inning, striking out all three Islanders, but TAMUCC escaped the late comeback and secured the 4-2 victory.
UIW 1, TAMUCC 6
Madison Floyd started the game in the circle for the Cardinals before
Natalie Myers entered the game. Lucio had a team-best two hits.
The Islanders added five quick runs in the first two innings, but Mata used an RBI single in the third frame to cut the advantage to 5-1.
Annie Gunther entered the circle UIW in the top of the fourth inning. TAMUCC added another run to the board and ultimately secured a 6-1 victory.

The Cardinals conclude their SLC series against the Islanders at 12:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 7. UIW will honor Lucio and Trapp for Senior Day. This game will be free for the public.
