HAMMOND, Louisiana – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team fell to Northwestern State University, 4-3, on Tuesday, May 10, in game one of the 2022 Southland Conference Tournament at North Oak Park. 
 
The Lady Demons struck first, hitting a three-run home run to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning. 
 
After trailing 4-0 through the first five frames, Bella Sanchez stepped up to the plate with two runners on base. With two strikes, Sanchez belted a three-run home run to bring the Cardinals within one, 4-3. 
 
The UIW defense used a 1-2-3 inning to keep the momentum going. The first two Cardinal batters reached base, but NSU secured the 4-3 victory. 
 
UP NEXT 
The Cardinals await their opponent for a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch Wednesday, May 11, for game two of the Southland Conference Tournament.
