NATCHITOCHES, LA. – The University of the Incarnate Word softball program dropped a three-game series against Northwestern State University (NSU) on Friday and Saturday at Lady Demond Diamond.
UIW 0, NSU 1
In a tough pitching duel from both programs, the Cardinals fell to the Lady Demons 1-0.
UIW 3, NSU 5
UIW tried to rally in game two, led by
Abby Frank's three hits, including two RBIs.
Madison Floyd started in the circle for UIW, throwing 64 pitches before
Annie Gunther entered in relief.
NSU jumped ahead to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning. The Cardinals did not let up, and with the bases loaded, Frank knocked a two-RBI single to the center field wall to cut the Lady Demons' edge to one, 3-2.
The Lady Demons added to their advantage and a sixth-inning RBI from
Teanna Lucio was not enough to complete the comeback. NSU registered the 5-3 victory in game two of the series.
UIW 0, NSU 2
On the final day of the three-game series, UIW tallied two hits.
Natalie Myers started the game in the circle for the Cardinals before
Ashley Trapp came in and retired four Lady Demons. Floyd ended the day for UIW, facing the final five batters. She held NSU hitless in the final inning of the 2-0 loss.

The Cardinals continue their stretch in Louisiana when they face McNeese State University in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, April 29, at 4 p.m. CT.
