Women’s Basketball Heads to SLC Tournament

KATY, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team heads to the 2022 Southland Conference (SLC) Basketball Tournament as the No. 5 seed. The Cardinals will face Nicholls State University on Thursday, March 10, at 11 a.m. CT for the first round of the tournament. All games will be played at the Leonard E. Merrell Center.
 
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
  • The Cardinals beat the Colonels, 78-76, earlier this season on Feb. 10, 2022.
  • The two teams are tied 1-1 this season.
 
UIW
  • The Cardinals finished regular season 9-16 overall with a 5-9 SLC record to secure the No. 5 seed.
  • Jaaucklyn Moore is averaging 17.6 points per game with 34 steals and 13 blocks on the season.
  • Destiny Terrell and Tiana Gardner are putting up seven points per contest. Terrell is the leading rebounder with 5.6 per game.
 
NICHOLLS
  • The Colonels finished regular season 4-21 and 2-12 in the SLC to take the bottom seed at No. 8.
  • Chelsea Cain (15), Chyna Allen (13) and Bryanna Washington (10) are all leading the team with double-digit scoring averages.
  • Cain and Washington are the team's top rebounders with six per contest.

The winner of this game will face No. 4 McNeese State University on Friday, March 11, at 11 a.m.
