SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team fell to UT-Arlington 11-5 on Tuesday, March 15 at H-E-B Field.
The Cardinals were led by
Avalon Sanchez (3) and
Julia Cordon's (2) RBIs.
Ryleigh Mata,
Savannah Behabetz,
Maddison Guillen and Sanchez all recorded two hits on the day to try and spark the Cardinal offense.
The Mavericks jumped ahead early having a 9-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Julia Cordon stepped up to the plate, with a 2-1 batting count she hit a double to the center-field wall to bring in
Bella Sanchez and Behabetz to begin chipping away at the lead.
UTA was able to add another run to the board before A. Sanchez came up to the plate with two runners on base. With two strikes, she belted a three-run home run over the left-field wall to bring the score to 10-5 in the bottom of the sixth.
However, the Mavericks were able to end the Cardinal rally and secure the 11-5 victory.
UP NEXT
UIW heads to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the Red Raider Classic where they will face the University of Northern Colorado and Texas Tech University. First pitch is scheduled for Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. CT.
