Box Score HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball program fell to Houston Baptist University (HBU), 51-45, on Thursday evening at the Sharp Gym.
Jaaucklyn Moore led UIW with 16 points followed by
Myra Bell's 11-pointer performance.
The Cardinals started off strong with a 6-1 scoring run, but the Huskies answered with their own stretch to tie the game at six all. The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle with UIW continuing fight throughout the first 10 minutes of play. A 7-0 scoring run, ending with a jumper from Breanna Perez, tied the game at 15-15 to end the first quarter. HBU came out of the first break with a fast-paced offense UIW could not stop and the Cardinals trailed at the half, 28-17.
HBU's offense continued through the second half, holding the Cardinals to just nine points in the third quarter. Perez sparked the UIW offense in the final 10 minutes and Bell followed, cutting the HBU edge to five (40-35) with five minutes left to play. Moore drew a three-point play after being fouled to cut the HBU advantage to four (42-38). Moore hit a three from the top of the key that cut the lead to one (42-41) before the Huskies secured the win, 51-45.

The Cardinal travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Saturday to face McNeese State University for their final regular-season road game of the 2022 season. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
