SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team dropped a 7-3 decision to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Wednesday afternoon at H-E-B Field.
The Phoenix hitters faced four different Cardinal pitchers through the seven innings.
Ashley Trapp started the game for UIW, facing 21 batters and striking out seven.
Maddy Blake entered the game in the fifth inning and saw three batters before Trapp re-entered to end the inning.
Madison Floyd then came into the circle for UIW before
Aaliyah Garcia completed the game and struck out three.
Ryleigh Mata,
Teanna Lucio and Kendal McGary all registered two hits, trying to spark the Cardinal offense. McGary also recorded two RBIs.
McGary's first RBI came in the bottom of the first inning to put UIW on the board first. However, in the top of the fifth inning, Green Bay's bats lit up, registering six runs. Lucio tried to chip away, hitting an RBI single to left field that brought in
Savannah Behabetz. McGary followed with a sacrifice fly out to left field that brought in Mata to cut the Green Bay lead in half, 6-3. The Phoenix added another run to the board that led them to the 7-3 victory.
