SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team topped Prairie View A&M University, 19-6, in five innings on Sunday afternoon at H-E-B Field.
Seven Cardinals registered a hit, with
Teanna Lucio leading the charge as she racked up four hits, all of which were RBIs.
Maddie Boldt belted a home run over the right-center wall, marking her third home run of the weekend.
Avalon Sanchez had another impressive performance at the plate, tallying five RBIs to help lead UIW to a five-inning victory.
Head coach Kim Dean looked deep into her bullpen for the second time this weekend, using five Cardinal pitchers in the short game.
Annie Gunther,
Madison Floyd,
Natalie Myers,
Catarina Esteves and
Maddy Blake all took a crack at the PVAMU batters.
Natalie Myers stunned the Panthers with three strikeouts.
The bottom of the first inning was a true testament to the Cardinal offensive. All nine batters faced PVAMU at least once as UIW registered nine runs on four hits in just the first frame. PVAMU tried to chip away at the Cardinals with an RBI triple to left field, scoring two to make it a 9-2 ballgame in the middle of the second inning. The UIW bats did not stop there, though, as a double from
Savannah Behabetz sparked four more runs (13-2) in the bottom of the second.
Boldt extended the UIW lead with her home run over the right-center wall. The Panthers tried to answer in the top of the fifth, but Blake came in to strike out the final batter of the game. With the 19-6 victory, the Cardinals improve to 3-2 on the season.
