SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team held the Sul Ross State Lobos scoreless in the first quarter to go on and win 77-36 on Sunday afternoon at the McDermott Center.
UIW had four student-athletes finish in double figures.
Nina De Leon Negron (11),
Myra Bell (11),
Hanna Wheeler (11), and
Kaylee Howell (10). De Leon Negron finished with five steals as the team scored 30 points off turnovers.
Brenna Perez scored four of the Cardinal's first six points of the game and
Aliyah Collins totaled seven points in the quarter behind two field goals and a three as UIW led the way in the first, 20-0.
The Lobos scored their first points of the day on free throws with 8:40 left in the second quarter (21-3). The Cardinals heated up, shooting 53 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc. De Leon Negron and Bell led the team in scoring with nine points apiece as UIW headed into the locker room up 43-12.
UIW saw several points from the bench in the third and fourth quarters totaling 38 bench points on the day.
Hanna Wheeler found her rhythm, knocking down three 3-pointers in the fourth to help the Cardinals to the 77-36 victory.
