G.J. Kinne Announced as Finalist for Eddie Robinson Award

SAN ANTONIO – Stats Perform announced the University of the Incarnate Word Head Football Coach G.J. Kinne as a finalist for the 2022 Eddie Robinson Award, which is presented to the national coach of the year in FCS.

A national media panel will select a winner on Dec. 8 and they will honor the coach a month later, on the eve of the national championship game, at the FCS National Awards banquet on Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas.

In his first season as a head coach, Kinne led the Cardinals to a 10-1 overall record (5-1 in conference) and a Southland Conference Championship. This season included a big win against FBS opponent Nevada and saw the Cardinals land their highest national ranking in program history at No. 4. UIW is currently ranked seventh in the nation heading into the FCS playoffs thanks to a record-breaking season. The Cardinals threw for a program-record 52 touchdowns and set a new team rushing record for the season with 2,355 yards. They also scored a total of 81 touchdowns while only allowing 25 giving them the best scoring margin in all of Division 1 football.
