Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team began its season against the University of North Dakota (UND) on November 7 and UNLV on November 12.
In the first game of the week the Cardinals were in a hard-fought battle during their home opener. Both teams went back and forth and were knotted up at 28 going into the half. Coming out of the break the Fighting Hawks were able to get a four-point edge, 49-45, with 7:49 left. They went on to extend this lead to double digits, but down the stretch UIW's hustle plays kept them in the game. After forcing four steals in a row and three-point play by Dylan Hayman the UND lead was cut to three. However, North Dakota was able to hold this lead, finishing the game by a score of 65-57.
Against UNLV on Saturday night, the Cardinals found themselves down 14 points at the half. The Rebels continued to apply pressure through the end of the game as UIW fell to UNLV 88-63.
Men's basketball will return to the McDermott Center this Tuesday at 6:30 pm for a game against Texas Lutheran and get back on the road as they take on Valparaiso University on Saturday.
