SAN ANTONIO – University of Incarnate Word's volleyball program hosts two Southland Conference teams this week. The Cardinals face Northwestern State Thursday, September 30 at 6:30 p.m. and Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, October 2 at 1:30 p.m.

Northwestern (UIW, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-18)
The last match between the Cardinals and the Demons came on March 13, 2021, in Natchitoches, LA. The Cardinals took the match in four sets. (3-1)
Bethany Clapp led the Cardinals with 23 kills followed by
Nailah Landon (11) and
Allison Palmi (10). Landon led the team with four total blocks.
Natalie Martin set up the offense with 34 assists in the match. The Cardinals outscored the Demons in points (69.0-63.0), kills (57-46), assists (52-42) and digs (78-68).
This was the largest margin of victory for the Cardinals in their long nine game series. The Cardinals are 1-3 at home against the Demons and 2-9 overall.
Southeastern Louisiana (SLU, 27-25, 16-25, 25-19, 25-16)
In the previous match between the Cardinals and the Lions, on March 20, 2021, SLU took the match in four sets. (3-1)
Clapp led the Cardinals with 15 kills followed by Palmi (9) and
Jacqueline Arrington (8).
Annamarie Alvarez and Landon led the team with five total blocks.
Pilar Gonzaba led the offensive system with 20 assists in the match.
Audrey Patton led the defense with 19 total digs. The Cardinals outscored the Lions in total blocks on the match (11-4).
The two programs are tied 4-4 in their eight-game series history. The Cardinals have the longest win streak against the Lions, with four. The Cardinals are 1-1 at home against the Lions.
UIW
The Cardinals are coming off their first conference match of the season against Texas A&M -Corpus Christi. The Cardinals hard-fought battle ended 0-3 on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals started the match strong with a 9-1 early scoring run before the Islanders came back to tie the match and ultimately secure the first set. The defense from
Chase Jackson and Arrington set the tone early in the second set. The third set was a back-and-forth square up between both programs. The set was tied 7-7 before the Islanders went on a 6-0 scoring run to take the lead. The Cardinals answered back to come within one point of the Islanders. The Islanders secured the match after going on a five-point scoring run. Palmi led the Cardinals with 12 kills, Martin registered 26 assists,
Zoe Menendez tallied 12 digs on the match.
NSU
The Lady Demons come to San Antonio with a 6-10 overall record and a 2-3 record on the road. They are coming off a 3-1 loss against Southland Conference foe, Southeastern Louisiana. Breanna Burrell led NSU with 13 kills followed by Jaylibeth Garcia-Rosa (10) and Symone Wesley (10). Piper Boydstun registered 30 assists on the match. Haley Hoang led the Lady Demon defense with 27 total digs. NSU tallied 48 total kills on the day.
SLU
The Lions travel to San Antonio to take on the Cardinals with a 2-10 overall record and a 2-4 record on the road. SLU will travel to Texas A&M -CC prior to their match against UIW. The Lions are coming off their first conference win against NSU 3-1. The Lions outscored the Lady Demons in points (73.0-57.0), kills (61-48), aces (8-4), assists (60-45) and digs (75-71). Cicily Hidalgo led the offense with 20 kills. Gracie Duplechein set up the offense registering 51 assists. Ansley Tullis led the defense with 23 total digs on the match.
