SAN ANTONIO – University of the Incarnate Word hosts the Islanders of Texas A&M- Corpus Christi Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 3 p.m. for the first Southland Conference matchup of the 2021 season.

These two programs previously faced each other on February 25, 2021, when the Cardinals fell to the Islanders 3-1.
Bethany Clapp led the Cardinals with 12 kills followed by
Chase Jackson with 11 and
Jacqueline Arrington with 10.
Natalie Martin led the team in digs with 11 followed by Audrey Paton with nine. The Cardinals have not secured a win against TAMU-CC however, their competitive schedule has given them the experience to go into this match positive.
UIW
The Cardinals are 5-9 overall this season. They started the season off strong with two wins against UT-Arlington. Then went on to host the Cardinal classic tournament where UIW went 2-1 on the weekend., defeating Idaho State University and Eastern Washington University. The Cardinals then hosted UTSA, where UIW fell 3-2 in a close matchup with the Roadrunners. The Cardinals have been on a road stretch since the UTRGV Invitational on September 10 where they finished 2-1. The Cardinals then traveled to Fort Worth, Texas to face off against the Horned Frogs of Texas Christian University where UIW secured their first set win in program history against TCU. During this match, Clapp reached her 1,000
th career kill ending with 15 on the evening. UIW then traveled to Colorado to compete in the Mile High Invitational where they faced three tough opponents, the University of Iowa, University of Denver and the United Stated Air Force Academy. The Cardinals were finally back home on September 22 when they faced Tarleton State University for the final regular season game before conference play. Missing some key players, the bench stepped up in pivotal moments of the set. UIW ultimately fell 3-1.
TAMU-CC
The Islanders are on a two-game losing streak putting them at 4-6 overall this season. The Islanders are also 1-3 on the road. TAMU-CC hosted their annual Islander Classic Invitational where they hosted Texas State University, University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and Tarleton State University. The Islanders secured a win against Texas State (3-2) however fell to UTEP (1-3) and Tarleton (1-3). In the previous meeting when the Islanders traveled to San Antonio, they secured the win in four sets. Rachel Young led the Islanders with 16 kills followed by Faith Panhans (13) and Chloe Simon (12). Carissa Barnes tallied two aces and led the team in digs with 13. TAMU-CC is undefeated against the Cardinals.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Freshman,
Risa Sena is having an amazing start to her Cardinal career sitting at third on the kill leader board with 91. Sena also has seven service aces, 54 digs and 10 total blocks so far this season. Her best match came against UT-Arlington having 17 kills and 16 digs.
Jacqueline Arrington has tallied 61 kills on the season and 47 total blocks. She had a season high of 12 kills against St. Thomas during the Cardinal Classic Tournament.
Allison Palmi has complied 76 kills on the season with 21 total blocks. Palmi's best game came in the matchup against Tarleton State with 13 kills.
Zoe Menendez has 16 kills, 26 digs and eight total blocks in 17 sets played. She is coming off her best match against Tarleton State having nine kills, four aces, 17 digs and three total blocks.
