Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO - University of the Incarnate Word Athletics completed another action-packed week of competition for men's and women's soccer.

Men's Soccer
- UIW men's soccer competed in their final two exhibition matches of the season this week.
- The Cardinals secured a win in their exhibition match against San Antonio FC on Tuesday, August 17 with a final score of 1-0.
- Sophomore midfielder Victor Velasco tallied his first goal of the season in this match.
- The Cardinals then faced Trinity University on Sunday, August 22.
- UIW secured the win in their final exhibition game of the season, 3-2.
- The three goals were scored by junior Bernabe Lopez, sophomore Alec Rodriguez and freshman Diego Toribio.
- Next week, men's soccer will travel to Houston, Texas to compete in the HBU Tournament.
- The Cardinals will face Florida Atlantic University on Thursday, August 26 at 5:30 p.m. and St. Thomas of Minnesota on August 29 at 5:30 p.m.

Women's Soccer
- UIW women's soccer had their first regular season match against Texas State Friday night at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.
- Sierra Wannamaker set the pace early with the first goal of the game four minutes in, giving UIW a 1-0 lead.
- "The girls came out fired up, ready to play but I felt like the intensity dropped a bit just before halftime," head coach Emma Wright-Cates said.
- The Bobcats scored two goals in the second half. The first goal in the 70th minute and the second with just three minutes left in the game.
- The Cardinals lost 2-1 to the Bobcats.
- "It's still very early in the season," Wright-Cates mentioned. "We're still learning roles and responsibilities and getting the system down. We expected them to poke holes in us, it's something we can learn lessons from and grow from moving forward."
- The Cardinals will host Grand Canyon University on Friday Aug. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
