ABILENE, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team split the three-game series against Abilene Christian on April 30 and May 2. Game one went 3-0, ACU, game two 4-2, UIW and game three 9-0, ACU.

GAME ONE
The Wildcats jumped to an early lead Friday afternoon, putting up two runs in the second inning and adding another run to their lead in the third. UIW failed to score a run in the first game of the series, with five Cardinal's registering a hit.

UIW fell 3-0 in game one.

GAME TWO
The Cardinals struck first in the top half of the first inning when Maddie Boldt singled through the left side to score Kendall McGary from third.

ACU tallied a run of their own in the bottom of the third inning off of a home run.

Boldt broke the tie in the top of the fourth off of a solo shot over the left-field wall giving the Cardinals the 2-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh inning, Abby Frank went long with her first collegiate home run that also scored Hailey Jackson to extend the Cardinals' lead to three.

The Wildcats hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally ended there and UIW won game two of the series.

UIW won 4-2 in game two. 

GAME THREE
ACU took an early lead in the Sunday series finale, by way of two-hit batters with bases loaded, and a bases-clearing triple to take a 5-0 lead after the second inning.

The Wildcats scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to give them a 9-0 lead. The Cardinals failed to score a run in the top of the fifth and the game ended in a run-rule victory for ACU.

UP NEXT

UIW finishes up the regular season with a road trip to Sam Houston for a three-game series. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. on May 7th.
