Cardinals Conclude Season in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team concluded its 2021 season in Huntsville this weekend dropping a three-game series against Sam Houston. The Cardinals dropped games one and two with a score of 4-0 and game three 9-1.

GAME ONE
It was a slow start for both teams offensively, as no run crossed the plate until the bottom of the fourth inning when Sam Houston hit a home run and had an RBI double to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Bearkats scored again in the fifth inning off of a two-run home run and went on to win game one 4-0. Three Cardinals registered hits in the loss; Savannah Behabetz (2), Abby Frank (1), and Hailey Goins (1).

GAME TWO
UIW was unable to get the offense going in the second game of the day against the Bearkats as they fell, 4-0. No Cardinal managed to register a hit.

GAME THREE
The Cardinals struck first in the series finale, when senior Tori Alvarez-Lopez sent her first home run of the season over the left-field wall.
Two four-pitch walks for Jordan Goins and Kendall McGary had runners on first and second with no outs to begin the fifth inning. Jazmine Torres drew another walk, and the Cardinals loaded the bases with one out to go. SHSU got out of the inning unscathed.
The Kats went on to score nine unanswered runs for the run-rule victory in the bottom of the sixth.

The Cardinals concluded their season 16-27 (9-18 conference), their best record since 2016.
