HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team fell in four sets at Houston Baptist on Thursday night inside Sharp Gym.
NOTABLES
- Bethany Clapp recorded a season-high three blocks.
- Clapp has led the squad in kills for all eight matches this season.
- Natalie Martin has a season-high 11 digs against the Huskies.
UIW claimed the first set, 25-19. Clapp led the team with five kills in the first set followed by
Chase Jackson's three kills. The Cardinals steadily built a lead, keeping the Huskies at a distance as they got to within one or two points every chance they got. UIW capitalized on HBU's -.091 hitting percentage to take the early lead.
The red and black struggled to find its groove in the second set as HBU opened on a 14-4 scoring run. After the first set that saw no service aces, the Huskies did their damage with six service aces in the second set to win, 25-11.
HBU carried that momentum into the third set to win 25-16.
UIW dropped the final set, 25-23, and the match but not without a fight. The Cardinals held the lead seven times early in the set. The Huskies took over after tying the score, 16-16. From there each point HBU made, UIW responded keeping it at a one-point game until the Huskies' match point.
