CARDINAL QUICK HITS
- UIW broke into the top 15 in both the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 (No.13) and the AFCA Coaches Poll (No. 15) marking the highest rankings in program history.
- Freshman quarterback Cameron Ward set a new UIW record in the 56-45 upset over Southeastern Louisiana recording six touchdown passes and carrying one in.
- Ward racked in two weekly honors in as he was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week and was named National Freshman Player of the Week for the second time this season.
- The Cardinals are 3-0, marking the first time they are 3-0 against Southland opponents since the 2018 season.
- Carson Mohr has been perfect on extra points this season going 18-for-18 and has made his last 37 attempts dating back to Oct. 26, 2019, against Northwestern State.
- The Cardinal offense is ranked first in the nation for total offensive yards with 596.3.
- The offensive line is controlling the line of scrimmage allowing just two tackles for loss to lead the league and rank second in the nation.
- Kevin Brown leads the nation in rush yards per carry, averaging 13.97 each time he gets the ball. The senior is also the second-best in the nation in rushing yards per game (167.7) and all-purpose yards (195).
- Brown has three straight games averaging over 10 yards per carry with at least 10 carries and is the only other FCS player to do that in the last 10 years (Julius Chestnut, 2018)
- Ward leads the nation in points responsible for per game averaging 32.0 in the first three games of the season.
SCOUTING NICHOLLS
- No. 17/14 Nicholls (3-1, 3-1 SLC) hosts after a 71-17 loss to Sam Houston State, followed by a bye-week. They opened the season with 3-0 with wins against Lincoln University of Missouri (87-3), Lamar (55-0) and Northwestern State (31-24).
- Nicholls leads the all-time series against UIW 4-2 and is currently on a four-game winning streak against the Cardinals.
- The Colonels are led by Lindsey Scott Jr. who is averaging 239 yards per game.
- On the receiving end, Scott is connecting with Dai'Jean Dixon, who has scored three touchdowns.
- Scott is dishing it off to Julien Gums who has 2 TDs (72.7 yards per game) or carrying it himself for 69.7 yards per game (5.4 yards per carry).
- Nicholls' defense is led by freshman Hayden Shaheen who has notched 2.5 tackles for loss, forced one fumble and is averaging 7.3 tackles per game. His 11 tackles against Sam Houston were career-high.
