SAN ANTONIO, Texas. – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team dropped a three-game series against Southland Conference leading Northwestern State March 19-20. Game one 5-2, game two 17-0 (five innings), and game three 5-0.
GAME ONE
Northwestern State took an early, 2-0 lead after the first four innings. The Cardinals looked to rally in the bottom of the fourth after a Hailey Goins bases loaded walk would score Delaney Guzman from third, and Renee Hoffman would score on a fielder's choice.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Lady Demon's added three more runs to break the tie and win game one, 5-2.
GAME TWO
The Cardinals were unable to get the offense going in the second game of the day against NSU as they fell, 17-0 in five innings. Four Cardinals registered a hit.
GAME THREE
The Lady Demons jumped to an early lead Saturday afternoon, putting up three runs in the first inning. UIW failed to register a hit in the series finale, with Savannah Behabetz being the only Cardinal to reach base on an NSU error.
UP NEXT
UIW plays Tarleton State in a midweek doubleheader at H-E-B Field on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
