Cardinals host two home games in final week of the regular season

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team hosts its final two home games of the season when it hosts Lamar on Monday at 4 p.m. and Houston Baptist on Wednesday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m.

CARDINAL QUICK FACTS

  • Jaaucklyn Moore leads the Cardinals averaging 12.4 ppg. The freshman scored a career-high 20 points on Saturday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
  • Two or more Cardinals have scored in double digits in seven games this season, five of which resulted in wins.
  • UIW maintains the best 3-point defense in the league in 11 games, holding opponents to 25.1% from beyond the arc, which ranks eighth in the nation. 
  • UIW is 5-6 overall, 3-3 in Southland Conference play. The Cardinals need to play at least two more games and finish among the top ten to play in the conference tournament in Katy, Texas.

SCOUTING THE LAMAR CARDINALS

  • Micaela Wilson is Lamar's leading scorer and rebounder who averages 12.4 ppg., and 6.3 reb.
  • Jayden Pimentel is averaging 2.5 steals (3rd SLC), 3.6 assists (3rd SLC) and is the team's second-best scorer with 9.6 points per game. The senior recorded a season-high 12 steals against Abilene Christian. 
  • Lamar won on its home court earlier this season on Feb. 24, 59-55, while UIW had just seven players in the rotation. Four of LU's players scored in double figures in the game.
  • Bebe Galloway who scored 14 points in the game against UIW holds the league's best field goal percentage (60%).

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

  • The Huskies lead 12-1 in head-to-heads against the Cardinals and currently hold a six-game winning streak. 
  • Timia Jefferson leads the Huskies with 14.9 ppg which is fourth-best in the league. The Sophomore guard has scored in double digits in all but one game she has played in this season.
  • Marylin Nzoiwu leads the squad on the boards averaging 7.6 rebounds per game which is fifth in the conference leaderboards. She also leads the league in blocked shots with 2.1 per game. 
  • Amber Leggett is also among the SLC's top rebounders averaging 6.9 per game.  
  • The Huskies are averaging 66.5 points per game, which is the fifth-best in the nation.
