SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team fell in three sets to SFA on Saturday afternoon in the McDermott Center.
Bethany Clapp led the Cardinals with 13 kills, 12 digs and two service aces on the match.
Pilar Gonzaba notched 27 assists.
"You learn more from a loss than you do a win, and our team is going to go back and watch both these matches from this weekend and get better," said head coach
Samantha Dabbs Thomas. "This team is hungry and will continue to work at getting better every day."
SFA broke out on an early 7-2 run and didn't look back taking the set 25-14.
The Cardinals worked hard early in the second set, tying the score and taking the lead twice. It looked as if the Ladyjacks were about to break away toward the end of the set, but a kill by
Nailah Landon set a UIW comeback in motion. Despite getting within striking distance off a 6-1 run, UIW ultimately dropped the second set 25-21.
The third set saw UIW score first off back-to-back service aces by Gonzaba, and kept the lead with a 4-1 run. The teams battled back and forth tying the score 11 times. Two kills by Jaqueline Arrington late in the set put the Cardinals ahead 21-20. A kill by
Chase Jackson to put UIW just one away from winning the set, 24-23, but SFA's 3-0 run blocked out the red and black to claim the match.
