Cardinals host New Orleans on Saturday, travel to Houston Baptist on Monday

SAN ANTONIO – After picking up its first two Southland Conference wins on the road, the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team returns to the McDermott Center to host New Orleans on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. CT. 
 
The Cardinals then set for Houston Baptist on Monday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. CT inside Sharp Gym.

CARDINAL QUICK FACTS
  • Starr Omozee notched her first double-double of the season on Feb. 8, in UIW's 66-47 victory over McNeese with 11 points and 12 rebounds, adding one block and two steals.
  • UIW picked up back-to-back wins, its first conference wins of the 2020-21 campaign, on the road against McNeese and Northwestern State limiting both opponents to 47 points on their home courts. 
  • In eight career starts, freshman Jaaucklyn Moore leads the squad with 10.9 ppg. (15th SLC). Her 85.7% accuracy from the charity line leads the league going 18-for-21 in eight games.
  • UIW's 3-point defense in eight games, holding opponents to just 25% from beyond the arc, continues to lead the Southland Conference and currently ranks 14th-best in the nation. 
  • Starr Omozee was an honorable mention for Southland Conference weekly awards (Dec. 7), appearing on 25 percent of the ballots. Her 16 points, seven rebounds performance in the win over UTSA were a highlight for the junior on that week's ballot. Her 11.8 ppg ranked 12th in the SLC, while her 5.8 rebounds ranked 16th.
  • The Cardinals' 2020-21 squad features 11 new members returning one starter, one red-shirt and three others. The Cardinals lost four of its starters and eight letter winners with a roster that graduated seven seniors last season.
 
SCOUTING THE PRIVATEERS
  • New Orleans leads the series 8-3 against UIW and holds a three-game winning streak against the red and black. The Cardinals are 2-3 when the Privateers play inside the McDermott Center. 
  • The Privateers are 4-11 overall and 1-8 in conference play currently on a four-game losing streak. 
  • Dionjhae Thomas leads the squad averaging 11.7 ppg (13th SLC), shooting 38.5% from the field, 25.9% from three and 70.0% from the charity line. 
  • Erin Randle leads the Privateers with 5.3 rebounds per game, averaging 3.6 defensive rebounds and 1.7 offensive boards.
 
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
  • The Huskies lead 12-1 in head-to-heads against the Cardinals and are currently on a six-game winning streak against the red and black. 
  • HBU is 7-6 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. The Huskies play at Lamar on Saturday, Feb. 13 before hosting the Cardinals.
  • The Huskies are outscoring their opponents by a margin of 8.9 (3rd SLC), averaging 68.9 ppg (5th SLC) while limiting opponents to 60 ppg (2nd SLC).
  • HBU's defense is an all-around effort as it is the second-best in the league in the field (37.3) and from beyond the arc (25.3), while also bringing down a second-best 26.7 defensive rebounds in the league. 
  • The Huskies' defense also comes in the form of turnovers, forcing opponents to 20.4 per contest which ranks third in the SLC, and in the form of blocked shots averaging 4.46 per game (2nd SLC). 
  • Tamia Jefferson leads the squad offensively with 15.6 ppg. (5th SLC). N'Denasija Collins and Marilyn Nzoiwu lead the squad averaging 7.4 and 7.3 boards per contest respectively and are frontrunners in the league in rebounds.  
  • Nzoiwu leads the league with 2.4 blocks per game.
