SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team defeated the Mountaineers of Schreiner University, 73-46, on Saturday, Dec. 4.
Jaaucklyn Moore led the Cardinals with 18 points and
Destiny Jenkins finished with five steals.
Myra Bell and
Chloe Storer led the team in rebounds with six each.
After a slow start to the game, Storer attacked Shreiner's post and finished a layup to give UIW a seven-point lead with six minutes left in the second quarter. Jenkins spotted up and drained a trey as the Cardinals jumped to a 20-12 advantage.
Starr Omozee extended the lead to 27-17 with a pair of free throws, and UIW headed into the locker room up 33-26.
The Cardinals started the second half on a 6-0 run behind back-to-back fast break buckets.
Brenna Perez knocked down a jumper and the lead extended to 45-30. UIW scored 22 points in the third quarter, while holding the Mountaineers to just eight points. The Cardinals ultimately won, 73-46.

The Cardinals travel to Edinburg, Texas, to matchup against University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11.
