SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's volleyball team traveled to Natchitoches, Louisiana to face the Demons of Northwestern State on Thursday, November 4. The Cardinals fell to the Demons 3-2.
 
The Demons jumped to a 10-3 lead to start the game. Back-to-back kills from Allison Palmi cut the lead to 12-8. The Cardinals and Demons traded points until Northwestern State went on a three-point run to extend their lead. Kills from Palmi (2) and Annamarie Alvarez brought the Cardinals within three points, forcing a Demon timeout. Chase Jackson had back-to-back kills to tie the match up 22-22 and take the lead. UIW took set one 25-23.  
 
Cardinals and Demons traded points once more until kills from Bethany Clapp and Nailah Landon gave UIW an 8-6 lead. Demons tied the game up 14-14 and neither team took more than a one-point lead until a three-point Demon run gave them the momentum to win set two.
 
Demons took a ten-point lead, 17-7, following a six-point run. Northwestern State won set three.
 
A pair of kills from Clapp and Zoe Menendez gave the Cardinals a 6-2 lead to start the fourth set. The Cardinals continued that momentum to a 13-6 lead, forcing a Northwestern State timeout. Demons came out of the timeout on a five-point run to cut the lead to 13-11. The Demons tied the game up 17-17 and the Cardinals secured the lead once more following a kill from Menendez as UIW took set four.
 
Demons took a 7-3 lead to start the set. UIW scores two more to make it 8-5 and the Demons went on an eight-point run to win the match 3-2 over the Cardinals.
 
Palmi led the team in kill with 15 followed by Clapp with 13 and Jackson with 11. Natalie Kimmel and Natalie Martin combined for 50 assists on the night. Audrey Patton finished with 20 digs, Macy Sumrall added 18 and Martin had 15.

The Cardinals continue the Louisiana road stretch as they matchup against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, November 6 at 1 p.m.
