EL PASO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team begins their 2021-22 season on Thursday, November 11 at The University of Texas at El Paso. The Cardinals play the Miners at 8 p.m. then travel to New Mexico State University on Saturday, November 13 to face the Aggies at 5 p.m.
UIW
- Slated to finish third in the Southland Conference (SLC) Pre-season Poll
- Team returns four starters including leading scorer, Jaaucklyn Moore who was named to the SLC All-Conference second team
- Cardinals welcomed two grad transfers this season, Jamie Means and Ariel Williams.
- Means Transferred from Louisiana Monroe and Williams from Radford
UTEP
- Hosted an exhibition game against St. Mary's University on Sunday, November 7. The Miners beat the Rattlers 83-45
- Sophomore point guard, Katia Gallegos was named to the Conference USA (C-USA) Preseason Team. Gallegos led the team in several categories, including scoring with 13.8 points per game and defensive rebounds with 91
- Miners were predicted to finished third in C-USA. UTEP finished 17-8 overall and 13-5 in conference last season
New Mexico State
- Hosted Western New Mexico on Tuesday, November 9 at 4 p.m. The Aggies beat the Mustangs 94-40
- Aaliyah Prince was named Second Team All-WAC and earned WAC All-Defensive Team honors last season
- Team was picked to finish seventh in the WAC Coaches' Poll
- Finished 9-12 overall and 6-6 in conference last season
