Baseball drops rubber match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped the rubber match, 7-0, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday afternoon.

NOTABLES
  • Ridge Rogers finished 2-4 on the afternoon, including a triple. It was the fifth triple of his career.
  • Jake Zatopek pitched two scoreless innings of relief as he struck out two batters. He lowered his ERA to 1.13 on the season.
  • Johnny Foral pitched a scoreless inning of relief, with two of the outs coming by strikeout. It was the fifth time in six appearance that Johnny Foral didn't allow an earned run, and the fourth straight appearance with at least two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was the Islanders who scored first in this one as they knocked in a run in the top of the third.
 
Rogers tripled in the top of the fifth to give the Cardinals a chance to tie it up, but he was unable to score. That turned out to be the closest scoring threat for UIW on the day as TAMU-CC tacked on six more runs the rest of the way to take a 7-0 lead.
 
There were some bright spots for the Cardinals as Zatopek and Foral closed out the final three innings without allowing a run, while striking out four batters.

The Cardinals come back to Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B, to play New Mexico in a two-game midweek series. The first game of the series will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. (CT).
