CONWAY, Ark. – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team opened Southland Conference play against Central Arkansas on Friday, dropping both games of the doubleheader, first 11-1 and then 3-0.
GAME ONE
Central Arkansas took an early, 5-0 lead in the first inning, scoring five runs on a passed ball, a sacrifice fly, a two-run double, and an RBI single.
Teanna Lucio notched her first hit in conference play, a double to left center in the top of the second, but the Cardinals were unable to capitalize on it. The Bears added another run in the bottom of the frame to extend their advantage to 6-0.
After a scoreless third inning, the Bears then scored five more runs in the bottom of the fourth to further their lead to 11-0. UIW added a run in the top of the fifth as
Abby Frank scored on a
Maddie Boldt groundout, but Central Arkansas closed out the 11-1 victory in game one.
GAME TWO
The Bears jumped out to an early, 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI double. After a scoreless second and third inning, Central Arkansas added another run in the bottom of the fourth go up 3-0.
Renee Hoffman singled to right center then Boldt doubled to left field, her first hit in league play, in the top of the seventh to get runners in scoring position, but the Cardinals ultimately fell, 3-0, to Central Arkansas in game two.

UIW plays the series finale against Central Arkansas on Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT).
