SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team hosted crosstown rival UTSA in its first midweek game of the season on Wednesday night, falling to the Roadrunners (19-1 in five innings) at H-E-B Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UTSA jumped out to an early advantage in the first inning, leading off with a solo home run and tacking on three additional runs to go up 4-0. The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the frame when
Renee Hoffman smacked a single that landed in the gap in left center, allowing
Abby Frank to score from second base.

The Roadrunners extended their lead over the next four innings; in the second inning, they scored four off a two-RBI double and a two-RBI home run. UTSA then added nine runs in the third and two runs in the fifth to secure a 19-1 win.
