Cardinals look to sink Privateers on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is on the road for back-to-back games in Louisiana starting with a matchup against New Orleans at 4 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.
 
UIW returns to action after recording its largest margin of victory of the season against Northwestern State, 76-39.

SERIES HISTORY
The Cardinals are 3-7 against the Privateers all-time. Earlier this season, UIW fell to New Orleans, 67-55, at the McDermott Center. The last time the Cardinals won against the Privateers at Lakefront Arena was back in January of 2014, when the teams faced each other for the first time.
 
THE CARDINALS
  • Senior guard Imani Robinson now holds the program record for most blocked shots with 78, a record she broke when she stopped two against Northwestern State (Feb. 12). The senior leads the team in scoring with 13.9 points per game. She scored a career-high 31 points in the win against Sam Houston State (Feb. 5).
  • Senior guard Angelica Wiggins had her best night of the season against Northwestern State, leading the team with 22 points. She made a season-high six 3-pointers, going 6-7 from three-point range and 7-9 from the field. The guard also blocked a career-high three shots in the game.
  • UIW has maintained the fourth-best scoring defense in the league, limiting opponents to just 59.7 points per game.
  • Cardinals have the fifth-best shooting percentage from beyond the arc at 31.1 percent.
  • Junior guard Kara Speer leads the Cardinals with 7.7 rebounds per game, including 5.3 defensive boards, which ranks fifth in the league.
 
SCOUTING THE PRIVATEERS
  • New Orleans is 13-10 on the season and 9-5 in conference play. The Privateers currently hold a three-game winning streak when playing at home.
  • The Privateers have the fourth-best scoring offense putting up 65.0 points per game.
  • Defensively, the Privateers block 3.96 shots per game, which is second-best in the SLC and their 20.5 forced turnovers per game rank fourth best. UNO is also strong around the perimeter limiting opponents to just 28.1 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Senior guard Rehema Franklin's 14.0 points per game (No.7 SLC), while shooting 40.5 percent from the field leads the team. Franklin has earned SLC Player of the Week honors this season.
  • Asia Woods, a 6-0 forward, is dropping 11.3 points per game, shooting 47.1 percent from the field. She is a major contributor defensively, bringing down 7.7 boards per game and an SLC second-best 3.3 offensive boards.
  • Larry Whitley is also contributing at the glass with an average 7.0 rebounds, grabbing 4.7 defensive boards.
