SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team opens its season with a 5-0 shutout victory over Bradley on Friday night at Sullivan Field, sponsored by HEB.
NOTABLES
- Luke Taggart shut out the Braves through 8.0 innings, setting a new career high with 11 strikeouts.
- Andy Rodriguez had a 2-for-4 outing with a run and a RBI.
- Lee Thomas went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a double.
- Ron Brown closed the game, striking out two batters in 1.0 inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After two scoreless innings, the Cardinals opened scoring in the bottom of the third.
Ridge Rogers came home on a
Landon Etzel triple to give UIW a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals extended their lead to 2-0 as Thomas doubled to drive in
Chance Medina.
UIW continued to take command as Rodriguez scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth inning to give UIW a 3-0 advantage. The Cardinals added two more runs on a Rodriguez single and
Ryan Flores sacrifice fly to capture a strong 5-0 victory.
