SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is slated to play two metropolitan area opponents hosting Texas State on Wednesday Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. CT.

UIW will then rematch Alamo City rival, UTSA after defeating them at home, 69-63 (Dec. 3). Tipoff against the Roadrunners is set for Sunday Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. CT at the Convocation Center.

CARDINAL QUICK HITS
- UIW's 3-point defense in four games, holding opponents to just 16.7 percent, leads the Southland Conference and is the tenth-best rate in the nation.
- Starr Omozee was an honorable mention for Southland Conference player of the week, appearing on 25 percent of the ballots. Her 16 point/seven rebound performance in the win over UTSA were a highlight for the junior in this week's ballot. Her 11.8 ppg rank 12th in the SLC, while her 5.8 rebounds rank 16th.
- Jaaucklyn Moore has made her mark four games into her freshman campaign. She is averaging 11.0 ppg (2nd UIW, 17th SLC) and 1.0 steals (T-7th SLC) all while starting all four games for the Cardinals.
- The Cardinals' 2020-21 squad features 11 new members returning one starter, one red-shirt and three others. The Cardinals lost four of its starters and eight letterwinners with a roster that graduated seven seniors last season.
- UIW has a young squad with eight true freshmen. The average age of the team is 19.3 years. 14 of 16 players on the roster have less than two years of playing experience at the Division I level, UIW is one of seven teams in the nation with 14 or more players with limited experience.
- The 2019-20 campaign was a season of firsts for the Cardinals that saw the team's first SLC Conference tournament berth. UIW defeated SFA at home, 60-52, overtaking the Lumberjacks for the first time in school history. Senior, Imani Robinson, was named first team All-Conference at the conclusion of the season, marking the first time a Cardinal earned the accolade.
- During his first year at the helm, Coach Dow, led the team to what would have been its first appearance in the Southland Conference tournament. The 14-15 overall record (10-10 SLC) marked the best record for the team since moving up to Division I in 2013-14. The +9 turnaround from the previous season tied for sixth-most improved team in the nation and also tied Dow for first in first-year head coaches with the most improved record.

SERIES HISTORY vs TXST
The head-to-head series between UIW and Texas State dates back to 1970, and the teams have faced each other four times. The Bobcats have won all four matchups against the Cardinals.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
- Da'Nasia Hood leads the Bobcats averaging 20.5 points (third-best in the Sun Belt) and 10.5 rebounds per contest. The junior has led TXST in both games this season against New Orleans and SMU with 16 and 25 points, respectively. Hood's 9.0 defensive rebounds per game rank best in the league and is eighth-best in the nation.
- Texas State leads the Sun Belt in turnovers forced, 21, and the number ranks 36th in the nation.
- The Bobcats are averaging 9.0 steals per contest. Kennedy Taylor leads the Sun Belt in steals per game at a rate of 3.5 per game, which ranks 25th in the nation.
- Avionne Alexander's sharp shooting from the field at 66.7 percent ranks third in the Sun Belt and 26th overall.

SERIES HISTORY vs UTSA
UTSA leads 2-1 heading into Sunday's 2020-21 rematch against UIW. The Alamo City rivals faced each other earlier this season when the Cardinals hosted the Roadrunners and picked up their first program win against the orange and blue.

SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS

- Adryana Quezada, who led UTSA with 20 points against UIW on Dec. 3, is averaging 16.0 points per contest which rates among the top ten in Conference USA. The sophomore also grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds against the Cardinals and her 11.7 rebounds per game are lead the conference.
- The Roadrunners boast the best scoring defense in C-USA holding opponents to 55.3 points per game.
- UTSA leads C-USA in rebounding offense at a rate of 49.3 per game. Their 18.3 offensive rebounds per contest are also a league high.
- The Roadrunners' defense is stout with a turnover margin of 5.33. Their 11.33 steals per contest are a league high.
