Box Score SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team beat the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers in their faceoff on Friday night to secure a 3-0 win, the first Cardinals win of the season.
 
 
NOTABLES
 

• Keeley Ayala netted two goals on the night to contribute to the Cardinals' shutout against PVAMU, totaling 5 shots on the night (4 on goal).
• Brooke Hanson secured one of UIW's three game goals after putting up seven shots on the night.
• UIW as a team put up 20 shots in tonight's match with 15 on goal.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Cardinals kickstarted their home opener match biding their time and getting a read on PVAMU's playing style. Early shots on goal tested the waters of the Lady Panthers' defense, but the first period capped out scoreless on both sides.
 
 
It was in the second period that the Cardinals charged out of the gate, dominating the offensive and fresh off the halftime regroup. After two un-netted shots Keeley Ayala secured the first goal of the match in the 65th minute to make the score 1-0. Jade Piper was clutch to recover the ball in UIW's favor, and contributed four shots (all of which were on goal) in tonight's game play.
 
 
Riding the buzz of that goal, senior Brooke Hanson connected the ball to net to increase the score in UIW's favor 2-0 in the 78th minute. Ayala returned to the shooting zone in the 88th minute, to net her second of the night as assisted by Brooke Hanson. The game concluded to secure the Cardinals a 3-0 win.

On Sept. 8, the Cardinals are set to host North Texas at Benson Stadium, with kickoff at 1 p.m. (CT).
