Arlington, Texas- The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team travels to Arlington, Texas, for the Maverick Classic on Friday and Saturday. UIW competes against Southern University and host UT Arlington on Friday at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively. The Cardinals finish the tournament against UNC Greensboro on Saturday at 11 a.m.

THE CARDINALS 

• The Cardinals finished with a record of 1-2 after competing in the I-10 Challenge.
• Junior Alyssa Carlin was named to the Doubletree All-Tournament in the 2019 I-10 Challenge. Carlin had 52 digs and 11 aces in the tournament.
• Bethany Clapp posted double digit kills in two of the three matches in the tournament.
• UIW is led by second-year head coach Samantha Dabbs-Thomas.

 
SCOUTING Southern University 

• SU is currently 0-3 after the Georgia Tech Tournament with losses to Georgia Tech, Long Beach State and UNC Asheville
• Sophomore Jada Carter was named to the Georgia Tech Invitational All-Tournament Team. Carter finished the weekend with a total of 16 kills, 15 digs, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.
• Southern University is led by head coach Venessa Jacobs. 

 
SCOUTING UT Arlington 

• The Mustangs hold a 2-1 record after competing in the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup where they won their matches against Houston and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi but fell to LSU.
• Brooke Townsend led the team with 26 kills in their win over Houston.
• The Mustangs are led by head coach J.T. Wenger.

 
SCOUTING UNCG

• The Spartans are 2-1 after hosting the Spartan-Deacon Classic. They won back-to-back matches against North Carolina Central and sweeping Presbyterian but fell to Wake Forest.
• Holly Behrends racked 30 kills in the tournament, while Maria Esch totaled 28.
• The Spartans are led by head coach Corey Carlin.

 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals stay in Arlington to play a match against SMU on September 7 at 4 p.m.
