Box Score THIBODAUX, La. -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team concluded its Louisiana road trip on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Nicholls. This is the squad's third consecutive shutout, improving UIW's Southland Conference record to 3-0 (4-6 on the season).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sunday's match kicked off with white hot offense; the Cardinals threatened the Colonel defensive line with 12 shots in the first half alone. On the match, UIW totaled 21 shots, with 14 on goal.

UIW's defensive line held Nicholls to just three shots on the match (one on goal), also locking in goalkeeper
Cailey Croson's third shutout in three matches (fourth of the season).

In the 26th minute,
Brooke Hanson found success when she blasted the ball into the upper right hand corner of the net, setting the UIW advantage at 1-0.
Keeley Ayala followed suit in the 44th minute. With an assist from
Hannah Walsh, Ayala found the back of the net in the low right corner, increasing the Cardinals' lead to 2-0 going into halftime.

The second half saw the Cardinals continue the offensive push.
Jade Piper netted her first goal of the match three minutes into the second period with a high center ball. Her goal was assisted by
Brooke Hanson. The UIW advantage increased, and the Colonels were unable to respond as the Cardinals secured the 3-0 win.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals return home for a two-game homestand, beginning with a Friday evening matchup against the University of Central Arkansas at 5 p.m. CT (Oct. 4), followed by a 12 p.m. Sunday match against Northwestern State University.
