THIBODAUX, La. -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team continues its travel weekend to face Nicholls State University on Sunday. The game is set for 1 p.m. CT.
THE GAME
CARDINALS LAST TIME OUT
UIW comes into Sunday's match off a powerful win over Southeastern Louisiana University on Friday. In this match, the defense was a major strength for the Cardinals strategy to clear Lady Lion advances and remain aggressive.
The Cardinals slated the game-winning goal with just four seconds left in the first period, off a
Keeley Ayala penalty kick goal. This secured UIW's 1-0 shutout over the Lady Lions, advancing the team's SLC standing to 2-0.
THE COLONELS
Nicholls stands at 3-5-1 on the season and 0-2 in SLC play, entering Sunday off an 8-0 loss to Abilene Christian University on Friday. Colonels senior goalkeeper Roosa Hurmerinta tallied 14 saves on the match after facing 36 ACU shots. Nicholls has a young roster, with eight true freshmen and one junior transfer.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals return home for a two-game homestand, beginning with a Friday evening matchup against the University of Central Arkansas at 5 p.m. CT (Oct. 4) followed by a 12 p.m. CT Sunday match hosting Northwestern State University on Oct. 6.
As a reminder admission is free for all UIW home soccer matches.
