Box Score ABILENE, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Abilene Christian on Thursday night in its Southland Conference opener in Abilene, Texas.
 
NOTABLES

• Bethany Clapp led the Cardinals with 10 kills and nine digs.
• Mckayla Landreth had nine kills and a .467 attacking percentage.
• Presley Blaylock racked up 37 assists.
• Maddi Brown registered three aces.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (24-26) | Set one was evenly matched, with both teams taking the lead for portions of the set. UIW was up, 20-17, when the Wildcats used a 7-0 stretch to take the lead. The Cardinals battled back to draw even at 24-24, but ACU went on to secure a 26-24 win.
 
SETS 2 AND 3 (13-25 and 25-27) | The Wildcats found their footing in the second set, jumping out to an early lead and leaving the Cardinals trailing for the majority of the set. ACU used a 5-1 run at the end to secure its set victory. Set three was back and forth and was eventually tied at 25-25. Abilene Christian then used consecutive kills to secure the 27-25 set victory and the 3-0 match win.

UIW continues its road trip at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. The match is slated for Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT).
