SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team begins Southland Conference play with back-to-back games on the road, first against Abilene Christian on Thursday at 6 p.m. (CT) and then against Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 1 p.m.
THE CARDINALS
- The Cardinals have four wins under their belt.
- Bethany Clapp leads the squad in kills with 158, averaging 2.89 kills per set; Clapp had a season-high 17 digs in the match against Delaware.
- Alyssa Carlin leads the squad from the back line with 210 digs this season; she has four games of at least twenty digs.
- Senior Mckayla Landreth has been a powerhouse for the Cardinals at the net, notching 44 blocks.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- Abilene Christian has two wins on the season, both against Prairie View A&M, for a 2-8 start going into conference play.
- The last time the teams faced each other (Sept. 29, 2018), UIW fell in five sets.
- The Wildcats are led by Lindsey Toney with 81 kills.
- Leading the back line is Mackenzie Harris with 144 digs.
SCOUTING THE LADYJACKS
- SFA is receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I poll.
- The Ladyjacks are 12-1 on the season, dropping only one contest to Arkansas State. They have also swept seven opponents this season. The Ladyjacks rank fifth in the nation in win-loss percentage.
- Taya Mitchell has 71 blocks in 47 sets, which ranks fifth in the nation for total blocks and ninth for blocks per set (1.61).
UP NEXT
The Cardinals return to the McDermott Center for a two-game homestand against Central Arkansas (Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.) and Northwestern State (Oct. 5 at 12 p.m.).
