Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team fought hard but could not overcome California State University, Bakersfield, ultimately falling, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Margaret Kofron had her first experience in goal for the Cardinals, tallying 90 minutes while halting multiple Roadrunner attempts for 11 saves on the match. Kofron punched a close, one-on-one CSU Bakersfield shot, just six yards off the goal line, out of harms way just after 11 minutes in the first half.
Amaya Spearman was all over the field defensively for the Cardinals, working to clear threats and set up plays on UIW's offensive working side.
Though the first period ended with the scoreboard empty, the Cardinals went into halftime consistently aggressive and hungry for more opportunities to secure the ball in their favor.
CSU Bakersfield found an open net within the first ten minutes of the second half to secure the first goal of the match, making the score 1-0. The Roadrunners added a goal in the 60th minute off the match, scoring off a penalty kick to take a 2-0 advantage.
The score remained as such until the end of regulation, securing CSU Bakersfield's 2-0 win over the Cardinals.
