Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team was narrowly edged out, 1-0, in its Friday night contest against the California Baptist Lancers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half saw the Cardinals excelling defensively towards any and all Lancer advances –
Amaya Spearman put in quality work in her minutes played to clear multiple close calls. The period ended scoreless.
Cailey Croson only faced one Lancer shot on goal, with the rest of the CBU advances either getting blocked by the Cardinals defense or missing the target.
UIW came into the second half fired up on offense, increasing its shot output to five on the period.
Jade Piper worked hard to take the ball toward the CBU net. An unfortunate shot-on-goal position gave California Baptist a window to secure a goal with 25 minutes left in the contest, making the score 1-0. The Lancers preserved their lead to end the game 1-0.
