CARDINALS LAST TIME OUT
UIW (1-4) swept the Southland Conference Player of the Week honors this past week, announced Tuesday (
Payton Adams (Fr.): Defensive P.O.W.;
Cailey Croson (Jr.): Goalkeeper P.O.W.;
Keeley Ayala (So.): Offensive P.O.W.). This was the first time in UIW women's soccer program history that the team swept the awards.
In last weekend's matches facing Prairie View A&M (Sept. 6) and University of North Texas (Sept. 8), the Cardinals put up 25 shots, evidence of their offensive strategy. UIW solidified its first shutout of the season as they blanked PVAMU on Sept. 6 (3-0). In this match, Ayala notched two of the Cardinal goals – one by way of a perfectly executed header over the defensive line and the other by a solid boot in the 88th minute. She leads the team with 17 shots and three goals on the season. Senior
Brooke Hanson has been another key to the Cardinals' offense, leading the pack in shots on goal with six (12 shots total).
Stud goalkeeper Croson tallied 11 saves on the weekend, 10 of which were from the match facing UNT's Mean Green.
UIW welcomes
Michaela Mares to the squad – a freshman from San Antonio, Texas, who will play M/D wearing #17.
