Box Score HOUSTON -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team rallied an impressive offense, but ultimately the Cardinals fell, 2-1, in their Sunday afternoon faceoff against Texas Southern University.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sunday afternoon's match saw UIW step up their offense in a major way, which was a product of excelled chemistry among the Cardinal squad.
 
The Cardinals logged 29 total shots in the match, the highest number put off by the squad under Head Coach Emma Wright-Cates. 20 of those shots were in the second half.
 
Goalkeeper Cailey Croson had four saves.
 
After an early Lady Tiger goal in the first half, the Cardinals fought back with five shots, but they were unable to change the score and TSU took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
 
UIW maintained its offensive attack in the second half, taking shot after shot to threaten the Lady Tiger defensive line. UIW found success in the 53rd minute when Keeley Ayala netted a clutch goal, assisted by senior Brooke Hanson, to make the score 1-1.
 
Ten minutes later, a TSU header slipped through, again giving Texas Southern the advantage, this time at 2-1. This score would stand until the conclusion of the game, with the Lady Tigers narrowly capturing the win.
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals come home to Benson Stadium for a two game homestand. UIW's first home game of the season is against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. CT. On Sept. 8, UIW hosts North Texas at 1 p.m. CT.
