SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word Athletics Department has partnered with UTSA Athletics for a River Rally as part of the Hometown Showdown – the first football contest between San Antonio's two NCAA Division I universities. The River Rally is slated for 6:30 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, Aug. 29, on the River Walk, while the Hometown Showdown is on Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. at the Alamodome.
Admission to the River Rally is free.
"I am looking forward to the upcoming events and watching our team play in the Alamodome," said UIW Athletics Director
Dr. Brian Wickstrom. "UTSA is a great institution in this unbelievable city. I think this will be a lot of fun. I hope all Cardinal fans take advantage of the activities planned. We look forward to seeing them at the game."
The river parade will feature the UIW football team, band, cheerleaders and dignitaries, as well as their counterparts from UTSA.
Following the parade, there will be a rally at Arneson River Theatre at 7 p.m. Both teams will have speakers at the rally, and there will be a Battle of the Bands.
"We are so excited about working together with UIW and the City of San Antonio to put on an event and a football game for all to enjoy," said UTSA Vice President and Athletics Director Dr. Lisa Campos. "No one puts on events better than San Antonio, and we're looking forward to uniting the community for the River Rally and Hometown Showdown."
The Hometown Showdown marks the first contest of UIW's 2019 campaign.
