Box Score HOUSTON -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team fought but ultimately fell, 3-1, to the University of Houston in Friday night's matchup.
 
HOW IT WENT
 
The Cardinals held the Cougars scoreless through the first half, coming out with swift offense while also putting up clutch saves on defense. In the very first minute of the match UIW had two swift shots, keeping UH on their toes.
 
On the night, UIW goalkeeper 
Cailey Croson had eight saves.
 
It wasn't until the very beginning seconds of the second half that UH scored the first goal of the match. The Cougars then added two more goals to make the score 3-0.
 
In the 85th minute, off of a Houston foul, Cardinal 
Keeley Ayala went to the line for a penalty kick, scoring to put UIW on the board.
The final seconds of the match closed to secure the Cougars' win, 3-1.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Cardinals stay in Houston to play Texas Southern University on Sept. 1. The match is set for 1 p.m. (CT).
