HOUSTON, TEXAS -- The University of the Incarnate Word softball team dropped its final game of the University of Houston Challenge on Sunday to Northern Illinois, 3-0.
NOTABLES
- Brett Coleman pitched a complete game, surrendering just two earned runs on six hits, striking out four batters in the process. This was her second complete game in as many days.
- After allowing a run in each of the first two innings, Coleman settled in nicely to shut out the Huskies over the next three innings. She has an ERA of 1.93 over her last two starts.
- Angel Villanueva went 1-2 with a walk and her fourth stolen base of the season. Her on-base percentage is up to .444, a team high (minimum 15 at-bats).
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIW surrendered a run in each of the first two innings before holding Northern Illinois scoreless through the fifth. The Huskies managed to plate one final run on an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead up to three, and held on to win the game 3-0. The Cardinals managed to load the bases in the third inning, but couldn't scratch across any runs.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals travel to Clearwater, Fl., to take on Bethune-Cookman in the opening game of the USF Under Armour Showcase. First pitch is Friday, March 1, at 1:30 p.m. CST.
