SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word football team has set its 2019 schedule, announced Head Coach
Eric Morris on Wednesday.
Â
The Cardinals -- coming off their most successful season in program history with a 4-0 record at home, a Southland Conference championship and a trip to the FCS Playoffs -- open the season against the other birds from San Antonio, the UTSA Roadrunners. This inaugural matchup with the crosstown foe is slated for Aug. 31 at the Alamodome.
Â
UIW hosts six home games at Benson Stadium in 2019 with contests against Texas Southern, Abilene Christian, Lamar, Northwestern State, Nicholls, and Central Arkansas. Of those home games, four are against teams with winning records in 2018 (ACU, Lamar, Nicholls, and UCA); two of those teams, Lamar and Nicholls, also earned a berth in the 2018 FCS Playoffs.
Â
In addition to UTSA, the Cardinals travel to FBS opponent New Mexico State on Nov. 16. In conference action, UIW heads to Sam Houston State, Houston Baptist, Southeastern Louisiana, and Stephen F. Austin.
Â
Game times are TBD. Season tickets are scheduled to go on sale in the coming weeks.
